Iris Blooms Throughout the Season
Have you have ever thought, “It’s just too bad that irises only bloom two weeks out of the year?” If so, you should plan to attend the June educational meeting featuring Terry Aitken. Terry and his wife Barbara own Aitken’s Salmon Creek Garden in Vancouver, WA and their goal is to correct this impression. Their Iris garden features a variety of plants that bloom from early April continuously through July with second round blooms in late summer into the fall. Learn how to select, plant and care for Iris varieties that will result in successional blooms in your own garden.

Terry and his wife Barbara have lived in Vancouver for 50 years and have been involved with irises for over 45 years. They have both have been iris judges for 40 years and Terry conducts judge training courses at various National Conventions and throughout the country. He has also lectured in New Zealand, Italy, Great Britain and Canada. Terry has also served as the National President of the American Iris Society (AIS) and currently participates in the Greater Portland Iris Society.

Aitken’s Salmon Creek Garden ships irises throughout the year across the US and around the world. The Garden will be a host garden for the AIS National convention which will be held in Portland in 2024.

Currently, Terry has moved away from administrative activities to focus on iris breeding. He now focuses his work on reblooming and sequential blooming irises.
