Steel, Fire, Anvil and Good, Honest Sweat!
With Seth Pauley, Red Pig Tools
From prehistoric times to the present, humans have designed, built, and used a multitude of tools to improve their environment and help attain a lasting food supply. Many of today's garden tools are but kissing cousins of the ancient tools used by the Romans and medieval Europeans. In this talk, artisan blacksmith and toolmaker Seth Pauley of Red Pig Garden Tools shares a brief overview of the history of garden tools through anecdotes and stories. He also covers topics such as the key parts of a garden tool and how to identify the characteristics of a high-quality garden tool, while providing tips for matching the right tool to the right job. Additionally, he covers some of the basics of ergonomics and tool care which many lifelong gardeners will not have learned or will have forgotten over the years.
